About Restoring Vacant Lots

Natural areas such as parks, green spaces, and green infrastructure provide health, economic, and social benefits to urban city residents. They also make our cities and neighborhoods more attractive places to live, work and play. Heartland Conservation Alliance’s Restoring Vacant Lots Program connects communities to nature in their neighborhoods and teaches the benefits of conservation through hands on restoration projects.  The program enables communities in Kansas City to take ownership of the natural surroundings leading to environmental literacy. In addition, it increases community engagement within civic organizations who work to alleviate poverty by building capacity to protect natural areas for the health and well-being of all.
