Alliance Services Program Update

Updated: Jul 9, 2021

On June 12 HCA hosted an information session as part of Restoring Vacant Lots program to re-imagine the ~20 acres of vacant land in the heart of Kansas City, Mo., located between 33rd and 39th Streets and bordered by Mersington and Norton; located in City Council Third District, zip codes 64128 and 64130. The information sessions were the first step in building a community advisory board as is part of the EPA Environmental Justice Grant.

In June as part of the Urban Waters program and the grant with EPA, HCA hosted two listening sessions for the development of a Water Equity Roadmap. The listening sessions included a roundtable discussion with Kansas City water utilities professionals to discover the barriers and goals surrounding water access. At the second session HCA reported the findings and proposed a plan for addressing water inequities in our city.

On June 16 – 18, several staff and Board members leaned in to participate in the Parkville Nature Sanctuary summer youth camp. The campers learned about archery, created peanut butter bird feeders and native seed balls, and explored the sanctuary.

The next Urban Waters meeting will be Wednesday, 7/14/21 at 1 pm.

The next Partnership Work Group meeting will be virtual on Tuesday, 9/7/21 at 5:30pm
