Conservation Program Update

Updated: Oct 14, 2021

The Municipal Farm is home to urban agriculture, groundwater restoration, and contaminated landfills. The Municipal Farm has been overgrown with invasive species, resulting in a monoculture of understory species displacing native wildlife. Photo by Madeline Putman.

On September 16 and 17, HCA’s Nature Action Crew Leader, Magali Rojas, led a group from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and Missouri State University on a site visit of the Municipal Farm and Blue Valley Park. Magali and HCA Board Member Bill Blessing shared the goals for the sites and HCA’s mission.

On September 24, the Policy Work Group discussed next steps for the carbon project and the Healthy Watershed Resolution. The Work Group decided to merge work this year with the Conservation Work Group and focus efforts on preparing for the strategic planning next year.

The next Conservation Work Group meeting is Wednesday, 11/3/21 at 4 pm.
