Conservation Program Update

The HOP is 40 acres of oak and hickory nestled on the bluffs overlooking the Blue River in south Kansas City. The property was purchased at a public auction last August with help of a loan from The Conservation Fund. Photo by Magali Rojas.

Urban Trail Co. has begun work on the planned hiking and biking trails at the Heartland Overlook Preserve. They will continue working on the trails every Saturday morning in February. On January 29 HCA Board President, Matt Hart, and HCA’s Nature Action Crew joined Urban Trail Co. last to learn basic trail building skills and help them with trail construction.

The Blue River Action Plan and the Blue River Report Card are in the editing process and are on track to be published this quarter.

The Conservation & Policy Work Group’s next meeting is scheduled for Monday, 2/14/22 at 5:30pm on Zoom. If you are interested in joining the Work Group, contact Magali Rojas at magali@heartlandconservationalliance.org.
