Conservation Program Update

In June HCA staff attended the Missouri Land Trust Coalition annual meeting in Springfield, MO. The groups learned about the important work other land trusts are doing in our state and discussed ways to support each other going forward. This month the Blue River Conservation Collaborative, a group of not-for-profit organizations, municipal, county, federal, and elected officials, met at the Mid-America Regional Council to discuss strategic planning for the Blue River Greenway.

HCA hosted Dr. Romina Chavez Jara, a Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative fellow and agricultural business owner from Paraguay. We helped connect Chavez Jara with local sustainable agricultural organizations, scientists, farmers, and partners in an effort to help her better engage farmers in sustainable agriculture in her home region.

We wrapped up our spring and summer volunteer workdays at Blue Valley Park. Volunteers picked up trash around Bales Lake. Thank you to all our volunteers who came out this year! Your hard work is so valuable in restoring the health of Kansas City's green spaces and the Blue River.

Check out our Community Calendar for volunteer opportunities and other ways to get involved in conservation across the Blue River Watershed.
