The Heartland Nature Celebration is one of the many events happening during the Greater Kansas City Metro Area City Nature Challenge. The Heartland Nature Celebration is open to the public and includes fun environmental experiences and guided hikes. Discover nature and help Kansas City reach our goal of 10,000 observations on iNaturalist!
The City Nature Challenge is a world-wide collaboration that offers an opportunity to connect with nature in your own backyard.
Participants can come and go from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and explore the interactive environmental education booths led by HCA's partners.
We invite all visitors to join one of the guided hikes, which will run every 30 minutes, and give you the opportunity to collect the valuable, scientific data for the City Nature Challenge.
New to iNaturalist? We'll have someone on site ready to help you out.
Dress for the weather and wear shoes you are comfortable hiking in. Everyone is welcome, including furry friends, to come and enjoy a day in nature!

Trail-friendly snacks have been generously donated by The Merc Co-op!
More event partners coming soon!

The City Nature Challenge is a citizen science event focused on urban biodiversity that uses the iNaturalist app to identify species in cities all over the world. The Heartland Nature Celebration will contribute to the Greater Kansas City Metro Area's City Nature Challenge through guided identification hikes using iNaturalist along the trail at the HOP.
