Education & Outreach Program Update

Heartland Conservation Alliance’s Nature Action Crew Leader participated in MARC's Plogtober event to walk and collect trash to raise awareness and address littering in our community.

On Saturday, October 23 HCA led a restoration workday with 27 volunteers at the Heartland Overlook Preserve. Budget Dumpster donated a dumpster and volunteers worked to remove some of the bulky trash items on our property. The next restoration workday is 11/13/21. Please take a look at the community calendar for upcoming workdays and join us!

The property, 40 acres of oak and hickory nestled on the bluffs overlooking the Blue River in south Kansas City, was purchased at public auction last August with help of a loan from The Conservation Fund.

On October 21 HCA hosted the second virtual discussion for the Green Guard Stewardship Training. Virtual Series #2 focused on urban forests and the group of stewards discussed the tree inventory conducted by Molly Gosnell from Midwest GeoInfo. The information from the tree inventory assists in determining a way to effectively manage the forest on vacant land in the Palestine East Neighborhood.
