Education & Outreach Program Update

On November 12, the Education & Outreach Work Group met virtually to discuss event planning for 2021. The Work Group discussed strategies for planning safe and enjoyable events that accomplish the Renew the Blue Goals such as increasing attendance, picking up more trash and tires, and planting more trees and natives. The Work Group’s goal is to have a fishable, swimmable, lovable Blue River. 2021 will focus on the ways the Blue River enriches our lives, brings us together and its importance for Kansas City’s prosperity.

The final Monday Movie Night will be Monday, December 28 at 7 – 8:30pm over Zoom. The screening will feature experts on health and healing around nature. We invite you to come and be part of a conversation where we hope to give inspiration for how nature can continue to provide both mental and physical benefits. Attendees also have the chance to win an HCA t-shirt or water bottle. Tickets are free, and you can register for them here: NEW CLASSY LINK

Youth Council

The 2020-2021 HCA Youth Council is accepting applications for passionate people between the ages of 14-24. This non-partisan campaign aims to bring awareness about people-centered approaches toward mitigating pollution in Kansas City’s urban neighborhoods and their surrounding green spaces. It aims to answer the questions:

· What would Kansas City look like if we worked with communities, and HCA partners, to mitigate pollution in the watershed around the Blue River and the urban core?

· What change could we make by educating Kansas City about zero waste practices?
