Education & Outreach Program Update

The Exploring Roots Summer Adventure Challenge featured trail in August is Cliff Drive Scenic Byway. Bring the family or hike solo. Reschedule in case of rain. Hit the trails bright and early or make it a plan for after work. Everyone who registers and has a keychain earns a prize! And thank you to all who signed up and hiked Little Blue Valley Park in July! We have received so many kind messages from folks who have been out hiking. We’re so glad to hear you’re enjoying the Challenge.

Please note: if there are no more keychains at the trail, take a selfie with one of the signs and show the staff at the pick-up location.

This month hikers who reach one of the three signs posted along the trail can choose from our selection of prizes:

  • Cliff Drive Poster by artist Kelly Pullen

  • Ruby Jean’s Juicery voucher

  • Tickets to The Prom at Starlight Theater (these are limited).

At the end of the month, we’ll draw three grand prize winners who will receive either a Kansas City Chiefs package, Moosejaw Mountaineering swag, or GoApe tickets

You have all month to complete the challenge, and prizes can be picked up at the Kansas City Public Library, Northeast Branch.

You can register for August’s hike and learn more about the Summer Adventure Challenge on the website.

On Saturday, August 20 Heartland Conservation Alliance is partnering with United by Blue, Corona USA and Oceanic Global to host a trash clean up at Blue River Parkway. The focus of the day will be cleaning up litter from waterways in KC!

Meet us at Alex George Wetland at Blue River Parkway for this cleanup. Volunteers will be led by staff to clean up trash and plastic from Blue River trail system and the lake shoreline. After cleaning, we'll celebrate the day's impact with games, educational activities, and complimentary lunch.

Though no alcohol will be present onsite, due to sponsorship from Corona, this cleanup event is open to volunteers age 21+.

Learn more about the event and register on the Facebook event page.
