The Blue River Documentary

Winner of a 2020 Mid-America Regional Emmy Award

About Blue River

Blue River is a captivating documentary film that delves into the oral histories, ecological wonders, and cultural significance of the Blue River. Join us in partnership with the Renew the Blue Campaign as we shine a spotlight on the river, its unique needs, and the dedicated organizations tirelessly working towards its improvement. Together, let’s foster positive outdoor experiences, celebrate the river’s rich past, inspire hope for its future, and advocate for sustainable development.

Local renowned filmmaker Michael Price, of English Landing Films, beautifully captures the river’s beauty and challenges in all seasons. Known for his acclaimed films like “Evicted” and “A City Divided” seen on KCPT, Michael brings his expertise to showcase the Blue River’s story.

The Blue River winds its way from Overland Park, where Wolf Creek meets Coffee Creek, to its confluence with the Missouri River. Spanning over 40 miles, it traverses suburban, agricultural, and urban landscapes, industrial areas, Brownfields, wetlands, and forests. Despite its regional potential, a 2012 survey by the Mid-America Regional Council revealed that only nine percent of residents recognize the Blue River as their watershed.
