Building a Sustainable Future for the Blue River Watershed

Together, We Can Make a Difference

The Heartland Conservation Alliance convenes a diverse coalition of community organizations, nonprofits, government agencies, private businesses, and neighborhood leaders to promote equitable access to nature, mitigate the effects of climate change, and create meaningful connections between diverse neighborhoods and political jurisdictions for the benefit of humans and nature in the Blue River watershed.

Our Initiatives

  • Serving as the Blue River Ambassador for the Urban Waters Federal Partnership
  • Collaborating with local businesses and sharing the importance of Blue River advocacy
  • Inviting public health experts and organizations to promote holistic education
  • Advancing capacity building, leadership development, and connectedness by coordinating subawards to emerging grassroots conservation and environmental justice leaders and organizations that undertake, or seek to undertake, urban forestry, urban waters revitalization, or environmental justice activities as well as assist them with their grant applications and strategic planning.
  • Enhancing community-initiated conservation engagement through our Restoring Vacant Lots Program
  • Advancing democracy and resource advocacy in underinvested neighborhoods by developing tools such as the Water Equity Roadmap

A Proud Member of the Urban Waters Federal Partnership

The Urban Waters Partnership reconnects urban communities, particularly those that are overburdened or economically distressed, with their waterways by improving coordination among federal agencies. The Partnership also collaborates with community-led revitalization efforts to improve our Nation’s water systems and promote their economic, environmental and social benefits.
