Exploring Roots Summer Adventure Challenge

The Exploring Roots Summer Adventure Challenge is a FREE event taking place from June to September. Each month, HCA features a different trail in Kansas City, encouraging folks to explore the beautiful natural spaces Kansas and Missouri have to offer. You can even earn prizes! The Summer Adventure is flexible, allowing everyone to choose when and how they explore the trails, whether with family, solo, or rescheduling in case of rain. Keep your eyes out for special events, where you can meet our partners, meet other outdoor enthusiasts, and learn something new!
How It Works:
- Visit the month’s featured trail and look for the Exploring Roots signs.
- Hike to your preferred distance. There are large signs situated along the trail. The first two signs are near the trailhead, the third sign is located at the half-mile mark, and four more signs can be found approximately every quarter mile after that. Snap a selfie near any of the signs.
- Show your selfie at the pickup location front desk to claim your small prize.
- At the end of every month we draw one grand prize winner (up to $500 in value!). If you want a chance to win the prize, make sure you’re registered (click here to register) and have snapped a selfie with an Exploring Roots sign on your hike!
